still, I think they didn’t represent Ryu’s expression well in the anime. In the Manga, it’s true that he gets sh0t, so obviously his expression ALSO shows pain, BUT it mainly looks more like, “ah, sh1t. Whatever, who cares, Senku’s gonna save us anyway 😁” It's like if he smiles in the face of d34th. He’s always been characterized by his happiness and positivity towards life and everything else, and indeed, EVEN when he gets sh0t, what does he do? He SMILES. He doesn’t lose that big smile of his, not even in front of death. That’s how Ryu is and i often remind that in my essays about him. While in the anime, you may think that the change of his expression is so little and subtle that it’s almost unnoticeable, but since I’m obsessed (and crazy about him), I noticed it and it really annoyed me a lot. Here, Ryu’s expression shows TOTALLY pain, like someone hardly gritting their teeth bc of how much it hurts, and his eyes reflects pain too. In the manga, his big smile shows him mocking both the person who sh0t him and d34th itself. In the anime, it’s simply an “ah. Sh1t.” that’s it. He’s 100% clenching his teeth from pain, not giving a big smile because he's sure about everyone's salvation no matter what. Of course, I know many of these decisions come from the director, but even the smallest change of expression like that can completely alter the aura of a character and its meaning. The one in the anime is not Ryu. The one in the manga is. That one is perfect, it reflects his how his behavior is, his constant positivity and hope, the facts he never gives up, not even in front of d34th, which he almost doesn't care about since he SMILES at it. But everything made me cry anyway expecially Gen's reaction to Ryu getting sh0t which was IDENTICAL to the Anime and the scream was so accurate it broke my heart twice 😭 I have nothing to say just crying in a corner because now I can clearly know how Gen's scream is during this scene and I'll never forget it
