This happened in 2008 too. It’s frustrating to have people think you’re being uppity for not working at McDonald’s when you can’t get hired. I would’ve happily made some Big Macs

The real problem is that the jobs at Walmart and Burger King, etc., are now people’s CAREERS. It’s not high school and college kids, or moms looking to make a little money. It’s people who have TWO of those jobs and are trying to keep food and shelter.

People love to perpetuate the idea that manual labor & service jobs don’t require any skills 🙃 there are people who have made their careers around that, so employers are going to hire someone w/ that experience already. Office/corporate or government experience isn’t the same skillset as a barista or line cook.

THANK YOU 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 I’m sick of explaining why Taco Bell, Walgreens, Walmart, Ross, etc keep sending me rejection emails. I even had an interview with a law practice & they told me they don’t want to hire me even though I’m qualified because of what I was getting paid last. SMH. It’s like if I can’t get hired at an office and I can’t get hired at an “easy job” then WHAT AM I SUPPOSED TO DO!! Ugh. Im stressed.

20 years experience and no one is interested in speaking with me. I worked for big brands like Harry Potter, Wicked, and Sports illustrated and yet - I don’t have “5 years experience in some bespoke technology” and they throw my application out. People used to get trained. You used to be able to get a job with 60-75% of the requirements. Now they want a 100% exact match. They don’t care about personal lives experience. We are in Idiocracy now
