I took a week’s bereavement leave when my sister died. Boss asked for proof. Brought in the newspaper clipping covering her murder. Left that company as soon as I could.

I’m in the Uk. When my husband had a stroke last year, my company asked what I needed to do so they could support me. I’ve also been allowed to permanently work from home as I have Atypical facial pain. Some companies amaze me how they deal with staff.

Worked for a veterinarian and I got bit on the hip by a rottie while in the room with the doctor. Went to the doctor. Got a note. He wanted photo proof of my injury. I told him I would never drop my pants for him nor would I photograph myself that way for him. Be got really red and that was the end of that.

When my grandpa was dying I forewarned my manager at the time and she said “well hopefully it’s not next week because I really need you”. I literally just blinked at her like are you forreal? I left 2 months later. She was a horrible manager hated her

my company has been amazing. I have had 3 very hard deaths this year starting with my mom💔 they gave me my bereavement plus extra time to deal with it all. I couldn't imagine working for someone who wanted proof of anything.

When I was in the corporate world, I was hospitalized suddenly. I called my manager and HR and let them know. My manager came to the hospital and woke me up and asked me why I was there, what was going on, and when I would be coming back to work. I’m not even kidding you

HR at my old job told me propping my foot up after foot surgery was wasn’t ok and no one wanted to sit next to my foot like that. And “why can’t you just put it down?” I dunno, Claire? I’d throw a blood clot? 🙄

When my grandpa died, no note even needed. My boss brought tons of food, plates and trash bags to my grandma’s house and sent flowers.

I would not be happy if my HR consultant was telling an employee that it may be time for them to leave the company. I would want the HR consultant to start the process for an investigation so the issue can be addressed and the manager can leave the company
