NO guys. God didn’t ask for a lamb as an offering. Cain was tasked to work with soils (Genesis 4:2), why would God ask him of something he can’t offer? The reason why God didn’t accept or rather favor Cain’s offering was because God saw through his heart. It may not have been explicitly showed, but you can catch a glimpse of Cain’s heart when after God reprimands him (Genesis 4:6), instead of working on himself, he instead let envy take over him and k.lled his brother, just like God said to him: “sin is crouching at your door; it desires to have you, but you must rule over it.” He failed to rule over the sin that desired to have him and fell. Cain also, ‘coincidentally’, offered God his fruits. However, God also said: “Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves. YOU WILL KNOW THEM BY THEIR FRUITS.” (Matthew 17:15-16). God saw the heart behind Cain’s ‘fruits’ and Abel’s lamb.

The way people keep spreading misinformation, pain offering was refused because he gave then worst of his crop, God knew he was a farmer and God told him offering your best, its not like the crops failed. No he had a bountiful harvest and chose to give God the worst he could find, that was his heart right there, while Abel chose his best new born lamb and gave to God, Cain gave God the after thought. its simple

to the people who dont know why God didn't appreciate Cain's vegetables, it's because Cain chose to not put as much effort as Abel and he just took whatever plant he could find. Abel on the other hand, got the best lamb, first born, with little fat, not the worst, but the best he could find.

Also to further on why God didn't accept Cain's offer—the sacrifice of the lamb was supposed to represent the later sacrifice of Jesus (someone innocent dying for the sins of people). It was meant to remind people of this promise. Sin can't be atoned for by material things (fruits, vegetables), but only by death (a death someone innocent would choose to die in our stead). Cain, by refusing to obey God's instructions, was undermining the lesson God wanted to teach.

"Now Abel became a shepherd of flocks, but Cain worked the ground. 3 In the course of time Cain presented some of the land’s produce as an offering to the Lord. 4 And Abel also presented an offering—some of the firstborn of his flock and their fat portions. The Lord had regard for Abel and his offering, 5 but he did not have regard for Cain and his offering. Cain was furious, and he looked despondent."
dunno which version is about him giving God rotten vegetables but yeah. Im curious how are people gonna justify it
