My point of view is, hunting season is what, 6-8 weeks of the year… so weather you hunt or not they are going to need other fulfillment. The six weeks doesn’t matter as long as you take care of them tbh

Personally if the dog is getting fulfilled in a different way then it doesn’t matter. I have two retrievers and don’t hunt and don’t plan on hunting

Most the people I know that show Brittany’s also hunt them but I would argue that is not the case for most breeds

So many breeds would have gone extinct if you could only have them for their original purpose because people don't need dogs for work like they used to. As long as they are fulfilled I don't see the problem.

No unless that breed is going to have an issue without working. For example, many retrievers and pointers are just fine as pets, but many livestock guardians are not 🤷🏼‍♀️

I don’t agree with that. As long as they’re mentally and physically fulfilled. I have a chessie and we do dock diving, fast cat, and I have her retrieve things. Now she’s “older” and has slowed down a bit but I still fulfill her

IMO you don’t need to take your retriever hunting but you DO have to fulfill the dogs needs in other ways. Properly enrich your dogs people!!!

The dog decides what’s fufilling to them. I think people that are DEAD SET on HAVING to do EXACTLY what a dog is bred for need to own a humbling mutt😭
