@dr_teralyn: #duet with @Tucker Carlson Fanclubs #tuckercarlsontonight Serotonin and depression: the myth busted. Researchers measured serotonin levels in the cerebrospinal fluid of people with depression—and compared them to people without. Result? No consistent difference. Nada. The “chemical imbalance” story sold for decades doesn’t hold up scientifically. Depression is real—but it’s not just about low serotonin. It’s about stress, environment, genetics, inflammation, and how your brain circuits work together. 💡 Your brain isn’t broken. Your mood isn’t just a chemical. #DepressionMyths #MentalHealthTruths #BeyondSerotonin @drjosefwittdoerring
I hate, hate, hate Tucker, but sometimes he has people on who I agree with.

I commented on that post and I’m curious about your thoughts: What these conversations do not account for is that several genetic polymorphisms affect neurotransmitters. For example, COMT, MAO-A, SLC6A4, and MTHFR variants can all alter serotonin and dopamine pathways. This means that a spinal draw or bloodwork may show normal levels of these neurotransmitters, while the brain’s actual capacity to utilize them or clear them after use is severely affected by the expression of these genes. But your point SSRIs will not affect the expression of these genes, diet, exercise, meditation, and social connections all affect the expression of the genes.
