@coltenbarnaby: I couldn’t be open to God until I became an atheist. Once I let go of the demiurge, the sky-person god of Christian nationalism, I started to hear the classical tradition: God as Being itself, not one more being among many. That shift changes everything: faith, doubt, even politics. #exvangelical #Deconstruction #christiantiktok #politics #vedanta

A lot of what you’re saying has to do with law. Every kind of law over America.

Ironically, his own definition (consciousness and bliss) is a demiurge (using his own definition). A non-demiurge God would be so beyond our understanding, comprehension, and awareness that by definition it would be indistinguishable from both reality and non-reality. It would have to be. If it has any characteristics, it can be known (as least in part) and is therefore limited. If you say “God is love”, then “not love” is not God, and congrats, you’ve made a demiurge since it has characteristics. Even if you say God is “the universe”, then you have constrained its characteristics to THE universe and not something else. It’s demiurges all the way down…

The idea that we call it a “he” was a big issue I had to begin with. The concept of it is so personified we didn’t even realize we assigned GENDER to a being we can’t even fathom…

Your content is so on point. To believe is to wrestle with doubt, honestly, transparently. In the end there will either be something or nothing -regardless.

suffering makes me question and beauty/love makes me believe. I dont think anyone really is anything other than Agnostic because you can't "know" but I like to believe in hope, beauty and love and that's how I think about it a lot.

Yeah I stopped calling myself an atheist when my understanding of what god was changed. God isn’t a person. God IS creation. Reality, the universe whatever you call it. I see god as the literal forces of creation itself as opposed to a person or people

Have you read No Nonsense Spirituality? also, you might be interested in exploring various Indigenous beliefs systems. I'd be curious to see how your analysis evolves as a result.

If god is just everything, there’s already a perfectly good word for that: the universe. Why not skip a step and a lot of baggage and just say universe?

I easily believe God is in us and we are God. Even Jesus said this in John 14. He said we can do greater things than he as well.

Most religions, at least in Gnostic thought, end up worshipping the Demiurge, also called Yaldabaoth. This being is not the True God but the one who shaped the material world and trapped pieces of divine light inside it. The True God, or Monad, is beyond creation and beyond our reach. We weren’t made by the True God but by the Demiurge, through the influence of Sophia (Wisdom herself) who fell from the divine realm (the Pleroma) after acting out of curiosity and compassion. Each of us carries a fragment of Sophia’s light, and when we die, that light is meant to return to her, unless the Demiurge traps it again in another body. That’s where the idea of reincarnation comes in, though not all Gnostic systems agree on that part. Our awareness of “God” isn’t awareness of the Monad. It’s awareness of Sophia, because our spark comes from her. That awareness lets us live and experience the world as she once did, through her own fall into matter and her longing to return. God, in the truest sense, doesn’t require worship or anything we can conceive. The Monad is completely beyond comprehension. If there’s any connection between us and that highest source, it’s indirect (maybe through Sophia) but I can't be sure of that. When you pray out loud, you’re probably praying to the Demiurge or one of his archons, because the material realm is his domain. When you pray silently, from the heart, that’s closer to Sophia, the spark inside you that remembers where it came from. Still, prayer is complicated. We can collectively create energy forms( thought-forms or egregores) that take on personalities and pretend to be divine. That’s why Gnostics warned against worshipping anything external. So if you follow this way of thinking, the safest path awareness. You shouldn't really be worshiping anything. Remembering your origin in Sophia and resisting the illusions of the Demiurge is what's important.

The conception of God as being itself makes me a lot more open to the idea of God then the man in the sky version does, but I still struggle with this: to ascribe any name like “God” to the foundations of existence would be to personify it, and I feel like the only reason we’d need to personify something like that is so it can “speak” to us, like “tell” us fundamental moral principles, and I don’t see how we can derive any moral principles from this version of God, so I guess why call it that at all?
