girls no longer having their “lame” terrible make up, terrible outfit phases makes me sad, it was so fun not being so polished

There’s also not really any tween/teen culture anymore. No magazines, stores, or really even shows that are for that age group. As a result I feel like we’re just shuffling kids into the role of mini adult younger and younger.

Fashion Nova has the exact same dress I wore to HOCO in 1992 or 1993.

Wait... you were in high school in '95 or '96... I'm sorry, that's impossible. No way... that math does not add up. You can't be 45 (this would be minimum age) Maybe 2005?

our homecoming dance wasn't even formal. pretty sure it was after the football game and everyonejustwore school colors and jeans? we had a winter semiformal and the dresses I wore to those were tea length and very glittery. graduated 2007

A lot of things I’m grateful to have missed, but calling it “hoco” is up there near the top.

In 2008 we had homecoming dinner at a grandmas house. We had the satin zebra dresses, but our favorite photos were the ones in the black trash bags grandma made us wear as smocks to preserve our dresses. I have the cashmere scarf she gave me that night

My homecoming dressses in 2008-2011 were short versions of prom dresses 🤣

The handkerchief dresses are pretty short… but I’m letting my 14yo wear whatever she wants. She picked a cute little short dress with spaghetti straps. Cool. You are only young once!

A store at the mall “hired” me to be a live mannequin for the day in exchange for a hefty discount on some clothes. I wore the jeans and going out top I purchased via that gig to HOCO. It was elite.

Out of curiosity I did click on the hoco dresses search, but as soon as the first video started playing I realised that I, as a 35 yo guy, really don’t need to be that well informed and this can happily go on existing without me haha

I graduated in 08 and although I wasn’t comfortable in dresses like that, girls at my HS definitely wore little dresses like the ones I saw when I looked up 2025 homecoming. We probably had a fingertips rule but I’m sure they just pulled them up farther at the dance.

I graduated in 2007 and our homecoming dances were so much more casual than what they do today.

Where I grew up Hoco dresses weren’t super dressy and my prom dress was what Hoco dresses are now.

I was in high school in the late 90s and I remember it being a lot more casual back then. We wore dresses but it wasn’t a huge event to shop for. And homecoming was in the high school cafeteria. I think some schools had it in the gym. My kids school does it at the local civic center.
