@nhs153: The liver produces a greenish fluid called bile, which helps in the digestion and absorption of fats. From the liver, bile passes through the hepatic ducts and then into the common bile duct (CBD). A part of this bile is temporarily stored and concentrated in the gallbladder. Sometimes, stones can form in the gallbladder, a condition known as cholelithiasis. If stones form in the common bile duct, the condition is called choledocholithiasis. The surgical removal of the gallbladder is called a cholecystectomy. This surgery can be done in two ways: Open cholecystectomy (through a larger incision in the abdomen) Laparoscopic cholecystectomy (through small keyhole incisions, using a camera and instruments) #bile #pancrease #gallbladder #cholecystectomy #gallstones
