🇹🇿👇 1. 💵 Visa on arrival cost us US$50 (depending on your passport) & 🏝️ a US$44 Mandatory Zanzibar insurance is required even if you already have travel insurance, can be bought online before arrival or at the airport. 2. 🛂 Airport arrivals involved insurnace purchasing, visa on arrival documentation and airport arrival cards: a lot of paperwork- so be prepared for a slower process. 3. 🚕 Airport transfers can be expensive. Expect around US$100 between the airport and Nungwi. The drive is about 90 minutes, but allow extra time for traffic and road conditions. 4. 🤍 The locals were very friendly & 👋 You’ll hear a LOT of “Jambo,” “Karibu,” and “Hakuna Matata” everywhere. 😄 6. 🏖️ Beach vendors approach you frequently. They were friendly, but if you’re looking for a quiet, uninterrupted beach day, it can become a little tiring. 7. 🧺 Laundry at our hotel was very expensive. We used Snow White Laundry in Nungwi instead- it was much cheaper and the service was excellent. 8. 🏛️ Stone Town is worth visiting for its history. We enjoyed the Freddie Mercury Museum and the former Slave Market the most. Google Maps wasn’t always reliable in the narrow alleyways, so a local guide can be helpful. 9. 🤒 We got food poisoning during our stay. Thankfully, the resort had an excellent on-site clinic. If you can, stay somewhere with a clinic or close to a hospital, and don’t skip travel insurance. 10. ✈️ Precision Air had major delays, so leave plenty of time if you have connecting flights. 11. 🛫 Terminal C at Zanzibar Airport is very basic. Even the premium lounge was underwhelming, so don’t expect a luxury airport experience. 12. 📶 Don’t expect perfect roads or infrastructure. Getting around can take longer than the distance suggests. 13. 💵 Carry small Tanzanian shilling notes. We found that some places struggled to give change for larger notes, so having smaller denominations made paying much easier. Save this for your trip! 🌴 #tanzania #zanzibar #zanzibartravel #riujambo #africabeach
