Try the o2 sensors, mine gave me a flashing check engine light mid pull and misfired hard. Ended up being a lower o2 sensor. I’ve had exhaust leaks before too but never got a CEL

Been around a lot of Benz guys in New York and they probably cleared the code before selling the car but if it’s a little louder then it should be most likely it was tuned with stock pipes on

Surprising no one really knows about these cars even in the comment section 😂 check the cam position sensors for oil leaks traveling all the way to o2 sensors and eventually can end up inside of ecu. Huge documented issue on these m157 and m278( what I have ) so I would check that first as first sign is 02 sensor codes from oil ruining the wiring

Change the primary o2 sensors first. At 80k miles the cats shouldn’t be clogged.

Why register it and pay all that tax when you can just ride with a dealer plate

Fuel trims should be your indicator low single digits optimal for long and short term.

I assume it has both pre-cat and post-cat O2 sensors. If the pre-cat sensors are ok, the car will run fine. They set the air/fuel ratio. The post cat sensors primarily confirm the cats are working, but they will cause CEL to trip. My guess is your post- cat sensors, but I would change them all.

Faulty o2 sensors it’s a sign that they going bad if it’s comes on and comes off . If you don’t replace them misfires will start happening .

When you start having a problem with them, you can still drive smooth on them for a couple days, but then they’ll collapse
