@mikeandashleytravel: Thinking you’ll score a cheap lunch at those little roadside pitstops in the middle of nowhere? Think again. We walked into this place and it seemed quaint, homey, and smelled like someone’s grandma was cooking up a delicious local meal. We made our way through the cafeteria-style line, picked out some mains and a drink. Add a salad? Sure, why not… we need our veggies. They even offered us our first baklava—how could we resist? Then came the bill. 50 euros. For this? 😳 When we went back in to check the prices, the handwritten menu that had been behind the counter had mysteriously vanished. Ok, yes… this was partly on us for not paying closer attention. But after seeing the menu pulled and later checking reviews (too late, of course), it turns out other travelers had the same experience. The food was mid and we walked out feeling a little butt-hurt. Both at our nativity (even after three years of full-time travel - we should know better) and also from feeling like we were taken advantage of. But what can you do? Lesson learned. TL;DR: Even when you think a meal should be cheap, it doesn’t always mean it will be. Always check the prices first.
