as long as you carb load before and/or after gym sesh you can easily be on a defecit and still have energy for the gym

Wouldn’t it be more that youre maintaining the body fat you have but your body fat percentage decreases as you put on muscle, which gives the illusion of losing fat?

growth of muscle isn't dependent on the energy you consume though it's not like the food you eat gets converted to muscle like how it does to fat so staying at maintainence and growing muscle wouldnt make you less fat and more muscular, it's not like at maintainence muscle and fat is directly proportional, really you're probably burning more calories than eating by a few calories which leads you to lose some fat and still be able to gain muscle.
"oh but bulking makes gaining muscle easier" well ofcourse having more energy and protein is optimal but energy isn't the thing that makes your muscle

The energy your body is using to build muscle is counted in your daily expenditure. If you are eating at maintenance excluding the energy used to build muscle, you are in a deficit

I’m sorry I still don’t understand. If u were in true maintenance, then ur expenditure (all the ways ur body uses energy) would match ur intake, and ur intake would supply all the energy needed for ur expenditure to take place. U wouldn’t lose fat since ur body has a 1:1 ratio with expenditure to intake meaning there’s no extra calories to store. If u in a bulk you’d have an extra 2-300 calories to store (depending on ur surplus) and if u were in a cut ur intake would be less than the expenditure meaning ur body then needs an extra source of energy.
