I have autism (formerly Aspergers) and was raised by a diagnosed dark triad father and also in the same house as a diagnosed dark triad older brother. When I run into somebody with NPD, they get sooo confused bc they cannot read me, but I grew up learning and studying the play book. It usually results in them crashing out (if I play the game at first), then us becoming "friends" bc I can empathize and understand and while also being real with them and being cognizant not to trigger them and how to de escalate.

HAHAHAHA. My partner is a narcissist and he recently tried to undermine my confidence and I just responded with “you’ve developed a new obsession. You’ve mentioned that 4 times now. It’s not going to work.” And he never said it again. 😂

i know a guy who's a narcissist... AND autistic. lethal combo, for him and everyone else around him. Misreads ALL social cues and thinks life is a game of "who's a bigger egotistical AHole" and loves to provoke people on purpose because he thinks that's the point. he's miserable because no matter what we say to him to make him realise why people can't stand him, his ego is too big and he thinks everyone else is in the wrong. The 2nd most insufferable person I've ever met. it's really sad.

this makes sense. im autistic, my dad is a hypnotist and super into psychology/reading people. the only reason he can read me is because im his daughter. he cant read other autistic people because they dont show the same social cues as most people. by the way, i wish i could play by the social rules! i just dont know them!!!! wish there was a handbook

Autistic here. I have an ex who was a malignant narcissist. Overall terrible relationship, just awful lol. But in hindsight I realize that a lot of our arguments came out of him trying to manipulate me and get reactions out of me, and without fail, I NEVER “played the game” correctly. My responses and reactions always baffled him and made him so much angrier because he never got what he wanted from me. Scary in the moment, but it’s hilarious to look back on and remember now. 😂
