@chimwemwekapondanyemba: #ZBSNews Over fifty percent of the first phase of the Salima-Lilongwe Water Supply Project initiated by government has now been covered and the contractor, Khato Civils, is upbeat to meet the March 2026 deadline for this phase. The project pegged at K535.5 bn, aims to eradicate potable-water-supply challenges for an estimated 1.5 million residents of Salima, Dowa and Lilongwe districts. Project Planner for contractor Khato Civils, Engineer Kondwani Gidala, says at the moment, four water stations and reservoirs to hold over 20 million litres, are under construction in Salima and Dowa districts. "In terms of pump stations, we are almost done and pipes earmarked for Lifuwu to Katengeza, are already being delivered," he said. Speaking after visiting the construction sites, Human Rights Defenders Coalition (HRDC) Chairperson, Gift Trapence, described the project as a worthwhile investment to the socio-economic development of Malawi, one that needs support.
