TODAY! Today I walked home in pain and in tears in the heat. This sounds odd but I actually had to walk uphill both ways (hill crests between locations) to the diagnostic centre located ~12 blocks south of me to get both the blood tests and X-rays my internist ordered. None of the requests were there so I walked back and forth between the lab and diagnostics areas while calling my doctor’s office several times. The X-ray req was finally received but only two joints were ordered when it was to be all of my joints! Then the tests couldn’t even be performed bc the room was now unavailable for the rest of the day. The blood tests hadn’t even been received by the time I was in overwhelm, tears, and had to leave before full ASD meltdown. Worse, I was part of a multi vehicle accident on a freeway yesterday and my neck, already with severe disc degeneration and cranial cervical instability, was thrown side to side rapidly when a semi side-swiped us and is now screaming in agony and making my head pound. I also couldn’t find my sunglasses so the sun was blinding me and then a man was drenched in cologne in a scent free medical facility so MCAS flare now too. Just another nightmare day of many over the past 12 or so ☹️😭

I have told myself that it is all "normal to me" 😭... I see how my mom and brother are down from a simple cold, yet I get the same one and I push thru because I HAVE to and makes me feel like "maybe it wasnt as bad for me" instead of "I so used to pretending im fine when im not that I am used to feeling like death and functioning with it that it looks like im not as badly sick" I hate that feeling

I’ve seen my mom struggle with being dismissed by doctors for years, as many women are. But as I’ve tried to deal with my own as a male, I’ve noticed how quickly speaking up for yourself gets you tagged as “difficult” or “aggressive.” I’m a pretty chill dude, but I’ve had to check myself out of hospitals because I was told I wasn’t immunocompromised despite having blood work that proved I was and them having multiple COVID patients in the same room. When boundaries get crossed, I am going to raise my voice and walk out. I’ve only had one doctor - an ENT - tell me, “I won’t do anything you don’t want me to.” Just last week I had to repeatedly tell an ophthalmologist that no, I did not want to do this test. She just kept pushing and pushing. Doctors need to realize the patient is hiring them for a service, and we are the final word on the matter.
