He saw a dark van trailed too close by a silver 2020 Toyota Camry. He swung around to tail the Camry. It crossed double yellow lines, passed the van the wrong way, and sped north. Cameron hit his lights for a stop. The driver pulled over on Knickerbocker near Durie Avenue in Closter. He radioed dispatch and met the driver, Bryanna. Her boyfriend yelled from the phone that he knew her. She told him to drive on. Cameron smelled booze as he neared. She hunted for papers while chatting on the call. Minutes passed. He ordered her out of the car. He suspected she was drunk. So he called for sobriety tests. Officer Nolasco pulled up to help. Cameron asked her intake. From a work party, she said. One drink before driving home. He began with Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus. No smooth eye chase. Jerking hit early, before 45 degrees. Next, Walk and Turn. She skipped heel-to-toe touches.
