This is really common. We used to sell out recyclables to china and they would recycle it. But now, they have enough of their own they won’t buy ours. And recycling plastics costs more than just producing new plastic, so the American companies won’t do it. But they hold out hope that someday there will be an innovation to reduce the cost of recycling and it will become cost effective. And since humans are really hard to train on which item goes where, they would rather keep the two bins for now rather than have to reteach everyone should it become cost effective in the future.

it's probably because the bottle had the tracker on it that it went to the landfill
