His mum came to my high school a few months ago to explain his story and education and encourage us against drink driving, it was truly eye opening and scary hearing it from her most of the people in the crowed ended up crying

It does fall back on the parents, sadly. You raise your kids to be responsible and law abiding. They role model your alcohol use but very few parents think about that when they drink.

the mum now works in drink driving prevention. she came to our high school when i was in grade 12 to talk to us about her story, and was very respectful to the whole story. most of us cried, she blamed herself quite a bit.
