@economyvodka: Replying to @Calysto moon Friendliness is actually default in the world idk what to tell you. The friendliest and most welcoming countries I’ve ever stepped foot in have all been outside of the West. A warm and beautiful world exists outside of these two places. #europe #usa #culture #ArabTikTok #latinamerica
And they take any niceness as being fake 😭 you can’t even tell them “hi” without them overthinking about it. It’s not about fakeness. It’s just being pleasant.

They assume that we’re being fake because if they did the same thing, it would be fake.

i agree. worth pointing out tho, that american friendliness feels practiced. it lacks warmth compared to the friendliness and hospitality from the global south.

As a Brazilian who’s lived in the US and multiple European countries, Americans are actually friendly!! I never take random compliments in the US with a grain of salt because people usually truly mean them! I love that about Americans

when i was in the hospital here in germany they said i was "too nice" and "too polite", like they actively complained to my bf about it... i was just being respectful...

It actually speaks to how miserable the nature of the culture is to assume kindness is fake. What reason does anyone have to be rude to someone they don't know? What logic is that?🤔

I'm tired of people mistaking politeness for shallowness, and I'm also kind of tired of my European friends thinking I'm “American-friendly” as if being nice and polite to strangers automatically means I'm American😭

Individualism is strong in The United States and Europe, so maybe that has something to do with it. When I went to study a semester in Colombia 🇨🇴 my neighbors made me an entire homemade feast on my 1st day there and then invited me to their “small” family gathering, which turn out to be a full on party. My neighbors in Ohio won’t even look at me.

Ill be completely honest, I’d take American polite culture over an age hierarchy culture any day. Either way, wherever one goes, it’s important to respect the culture there

I never cared if it’s fake or not, at the end of the day these little interactions make or break your day.

Exactly. As a 🇵🇷🇩🇴 we are so friendly in the Caribbean like people can say what they want about PR but we are some of the kindest people out there and genuinely. When I went to Spain I was shocked at how rude they were AND I SPOKE THE LANGUAGE

I used to think like Europeans, I used to think that everyone was negative and nihilistic like me… but no, some people actually see life as half glass full and genuinely are happy to meet new people. Once people accept that we’re all different and think differently, we can come to accept and respect each other.

For me I don’t engage in the conversations that American politeness is rooted in performative/transactional. When I greet some and ask how’s your day going I use it as a gauge to start a little nice conversation and if not I dont engage depending on their mood. Some may call that fake, but it doesn’t hurt to have a nice little conversation and be kind

I’m not saying they’re the friendliest people in the world, but in my limited experience of traveling Europe and Asia, the Irish and the Turkish people are the friendliest people I’ve met, way more than America.

the thought of someone thinking I’m being fake or shallow for saying something nice to them at the store is disheartening. going through life with that kind of cynicism can’t be healthy😭
