Is that not a good thing ? Offering children a career path when they may have difficulty on the job market due to not being able to read and count ? Going to the military offers decent pay and benefits. People want to benefit from living in brittain but not contribute to it madness .

I always feel like black/mixed kids being ungraded is always brushed under the rug and they always happen to end up in the “bottom sets”

I believe this is what is happening now, mysteriously so many children have actually failed GCSEs , just watch for the mass recruitment campaign, and offering of train8ng places while “getting paid”

Within the last 10 years I’ve been asked to put a military recruitment poster into my school counselling room. Obviously it went straight in the bin.

YES! i went to a school in devon which was very underfunded and just generally a bad rep school and i remember this happening to us i think in assembly though. i think they pry on kids that are from poorer backgrounds + likely to be neurodivergent

Our school literally had a “band A” and a “band B” - they had no chances of interacting outside of break/lunch so naturally band A and B were pretty segregated

That’s so scary! I didn’t see it in school as a city girl (but I was also in top sets), however I know of a lot parents in the city who would send their sons to sign up for the military if they struggled with education. They were just written off instead of trying to help them get extra help + the few guys I know who made it out have a lot of trauma from it.

I was in the bottom set. One day, the police came to do recruiting with the top set. The careers teacher laughed at us when we asked if we could join them, as they laughed at us when we asked to be included in anything deemed too academic for our inferior intellects. Rather then question why we weren't as accomplished as our peers, and to try help and encourage us, teachers were content to let us fail. This was 25 years ago. Hopefully, things have improved.

when i was in sixth form in london around 2019, the army came to us and we were all taken out of classes and made to participate in army day. we had to do activities and it was fun icl, we tried military food which was below mid and they were proper bigging up the military. we were a low attainment school that was very brown and black though and it was very targeted
