@downtoinvest: Wondering how investments are taxed? Here’s a simple breakdown of 3 basics👇 ✔️ High-Yield Savings Accounts (HYSA) – Interest is taxed as ordinary income. ✔️ Dividends – Non-qualified (ordinary rates), qualified (lower LTCG rates), or tax-exempt. ✔️ Capital Gains Distributions from funds – From funds, always taxed as long-term capital gains. ✔️ Selling Investments Capital Gains – Short-term less than 1 yr = ordinary income rates, long-term 1yr+ = lower LTCG rates. ✔️ Capital Losses – Offset gains + reduce up to $3,000 of ordinary income per year. Knowing how interest, dividends, and capital gains taxes work can help you avoid surprises and keep more of your money. These are just the BASICS there are special investments that you can hold in brokerage accounts that may be totally taxed differently. Consult a CPA for questions. #capitalgains #dividends #financialeducation #PersonalFinance #investingforbeginners

Would I be taxed on dividends if I never moved it into my bank account? I always reinvested the money I got from dividends to buy more stocks (though it’s only fractional shares lol).

Always have some emergency money in an hysa. Limit to long term capital gains to 0% if possible. But better to have long term than short term taxes.
