you were supposed to put several coats of mud to level the ceiling. usually around three coats max will do it. the mud is spread evenly then sanded when dry. then another coat goes on. finally the popcorn goes on to finish

to make the edges even you need to spread more joint compound in layers sanding alittle between each layer until the edge disappears. Pros wouldn't get the ceiling texture to blend perfect with a joint knife it needs to be sprayed

I made this SAME mistake with our drywall installation... more coats if mud, sand it down after it dries, and if you need to add more mud, do it! Love your stuff, babe!

you have to a blowout patch repair. so you have to get a larger knife and load it up with mud and then do another coat where it's relativity smooth. Then sand and paint
