It’s funny how when you are a young farmer or first generation it’s not a lack of ambition to make everything show pretty it’s usually lack of funds and unfortunately a painted barn doesn’t add more income. But it’s fun starting to climb over that hurdle.

My barn and house built in 1910 originally was a nice well built setup though the house was small at the time but they had a 70ft long barn. Over the years they added on to the house, and they cut a good amount of corners in the 60s, they must have had kids and added on to the house quickly, and must have forgot to pour a foundation... or insulate it in any way. They quit milking in the barn in 2000 and since then I dont think they did much in it or to it in terms of maintenance other than recently before I got it. They had ponies in it now it is pretty close to too far gone to save unfortunately as its going to be very costly to get it straight again fix the rafters, fix the roof, fix the siding.

It’s an endless battle. Had my farm for 23 years now and we started in replacing and fixing roofs barely a year after closing on it. It was definitely a ready to pop rust bubble special!

Used to rebuild those Patz shit pumps. The doors would always wear out and you had to pull the ram out and pressure wash it all. Always a great time 😂

That pump room IS cool. Separate place to keep the barn lime n bedding chopper. Few bales of straw tie a new calf up temporarily. Halter ropes chains wheelbarrow 👍
