#CapCut // The Emptiness Machine - Linkin Park “The Emptiness Machine” is the first song by Linkin Park that was made since the passing of Chester Bennington in 2017, as well as their first song to feature Emily Armstrong as the new lead vocalist and Colin Brittain as the new drummer in the band. Rumors of a new vocalist first started in April 2024 when Orgy frontman, Jay Gordon mentioned the band in an interview on Wired in the Empire, a show on KCAL 96.7: "Very, very cool guys and obviously a great band. They’ve been around a long time and they’re still going for it. It’s going to be tough without Chester, but we’ll see. I hear they got a girl singer now. That’s what I heard." When pressed, he followed up saying, “Don’t quote me on that. I’m not sure who the singer is going to be, but I heard it was gonna be female. They might just try to move on like that. That ought to be interesting.“ He would later walk back on what he said in the interview saying on social media: "With regards to this Linkin Park singer thing, I know nothing about any of that. People sure do love to take my words out of context. I love those guys and wish them the best… Wow I was like what in the actual fuck ? I said nothing about knowing any of that and never brought it up. I love Chester and there will never be another him ever. Strange that that dude said something to me about it not the other way around. get real dude. Not cool!" New content was first teased by Linkin Park on August 24 2024 cryptically in the form of a countdown clock set for 100 hours on the band’s website. This first got fans speculating that a reunion and new content would be revealed when the clock hit 0. However, to many fans' surprise, the clock glitched at 0 hours and started counting upwards to 100. Many fans who continued to watch noticed the clock glitched again at the 9:05 mark, symbolizing the importance of the date, September 5th. This was later confirmed by the band when they posted to their social media “Be part of something. September 5th. LinkinPark.com” That same day, LP Underground members received an email inviting them to a mysterious event in LA on September 5th. Meanwhile, the clock continued to count up to 100 and fans noticed that a mysterious image appeared when the clock reached the 99:59 mark. This left fans speculating who it was, with some guessing it was a potential new singer. When the clock finally reached 100 hours, a 3-second soundbite played, and this led to speculation that it was snippet of a new song. Further rumors of a new song continued when a leak of “The Emptiness Machine”’s name and album artwork was revealed by Filter News, a Russian newsgroup that has been right with early leaks many times before. This leak became more viable when Linkin Park posted to their social media stories the day of the event with a link to the live stream event and the same logo that was leaked in the album artwork. This led many to believe that “The Emptiness Machine” would be performed at the event. Before the September 5th event started, the thumbnail for the live stream on Linkin Park’s website changed to the single artwork leaked by Filter News, confirming its legitimacy. “The Emptiness Machine” was finally performed by the band at the live event along with “Somewhere I Belong,” “Crawling,” “In The End,” and a few other old LP songs. During this performance, Mike Shinoda, Joe Hahn, and Phoenix appeared onstage along with Emily Armstrong as the new vocalist, Colin Brittain on drums, and Alex Feder filling in on guitar for Brad Delson. Shortly after, the music video for “The Emptiness Machine” was released, revealing that the mystery image from the countdown clock was a still of Mike Shinoda from the video. Linkin Park would also reveal that their 8th album, From Zero would be released on November 15th, 2024 and a corresponding world tour would take place.
