Surveillance footage showed her entering a black SUV on August 23, but she was never seen again. Her car was found abandoned the next day in Hyattsville. Days later, on August 31, her body was discovered in a grassy area off Route 50 in Anne Arundel County. The investigation led to the arrest of 35-year-old Hugo Hernandez-Mendez, who was charged with first- and second-degree murder. Evidence suggested that Thompson was killed in a bedroom within Hernandez-Mendez’s residence in Bowie.
