Niva Shrestha :
Imagine your friend, your sibling, or a student in uniform shot while peacefully protesting censorship and corruption. That’s Nepal today. Please share, speak up, stand in solidarity.
Nepal’s Gen Z students, youths, even teenagers in their school uniforms came together, united, demanding something so simple, so human: fairness, an end to corruption, and the right to be heard. They were also standing against a ban on 26 major social media platforms like Instagram, YouTube, WhatsApp, and X all cut off in one of the most drastic moves against free speech.
What began as a peaceful march ended in bloodshed. Police opened fire. At least 19 lives were lost that day. Many shot in their heads, in their vital organs. Hundreds more were injured. Young bodies now lying in hospital beds instead of classrooms.
All because they dared to speak. All because they believed their voices could matter.
So I ask you: don’t look away. Share what’s happening. Talk about it. Let the world know.
This is a human rights crisis. The world cannot stay silent. This is not just Nepal’s fight. It’s humanity’s fight.
