Not years, not months, but seconds between these images 🙏🏼 This is the difference between a slouched, unposed back and a fully posed back. These are screenshots from the beginning and end of a 20-second video of me flexing my back. Let this serve as a reminder that what you see on social media isn’t always “real”. Yes, the picture / moment might have really existed, but only for a split second. And then life goes right back to the image on the left. But if you didn’t have this information, there’s a good chance you fall in the “unconscious, incompetent” quadrant of the square. I just learned about this concept from @jayshetty’s podcast with @askvinh last night. “Unconscious, incompetent” means that you’re currently oblivious to something, so much so that you just don’t even yet realize what you don’t know. This is the quadrant I fell into when I competed in my first bodybuilding competition this past year. My back posing was terrible (relatively speaking), and I didn’t realize it until I watched the footage back and got judges’ feedback. This moved me into the “conscious, incompetent” quadrant. I knew my posing was bad, but it was still bad 😂 Then last night, I had my first moment where I FINALLY made it into the “conscious, competent” quadrant. This means you have the ability to do something at least decently well, and you do so through conscious, concerted effort. My back posing is by no means perfect, but for the first time I was able to achieve both a wide back / V-taper aesthetic AND was able to rest my arms on top of my lats. The “resting arms on lats” cue has been darn near impossible for me to grasp for months…until last night. It just takes a lot of mental energy / effort to achieve it currently. The goal, the plan, the non-negotiable necessity is to get this sort of posing into the “unconscious, competent” quadrant by the time my first pro card-qualifying show rolls around in November of this year. In this quadrant, you’re able to perform a given action without conscious effort. It moves into the realm of “automation” / subconscious effort. Like opening / closing a door, driving a car, or brushing your teeth. I will get there. #mensphysique #naturalbodybuilding #naturalbodybuilder #onlinecoach #physiquecompetitor #fitnesscoach #bodybuilder #bodybuilding
