Totally trying this! Synonyms verbal 4 year old was having issues with issues with nap and bedtime and we realized hes scared of the dark, even with a nightlight. So yesterday I told him his special Dino was scared of the dark and he had to stay calm so his Dino stayed calm. His 8 year old brother tried to cut in with "Its just a stuffie" and 4 yo cut him off with a hissed "SHHHHH", laid down next to Mr Dino, and fell asleep within 10 minutes. It worked at bedtime too. I love finding creative ways to encourage them to follow the rules without the fights. Much less stressful!
