Meijer had a special needs employee arrested for eating out of the trash. Never once asked why the poor teen was eating it, instead waited until it totaled enough money they could have him arrested

That’s so sad. Only reason I can think of is the company didn’t want to get sued if someone ate food “to be thrown away” & got very sick from it?

When I worked at Starbucks one of my coworkers got fired for DONATING! the food we were throwing out to a battered women’s and children’s shelter….. I got written up for ‘allowing’ it since I was the shift in charge.

I’ve managed a few fast food places, I have not once cared if employees took food home after I counted it for my food waste at the end of the night. In fact I encouraged it.

They’re so selfish it’s still edible but let’s throw it away instead of helping people and giving it away then call it theft if someone takes it instead 🤦🏼♀️I hate companies that do that

It’s vile the amount of food waste that goes on because companies deem it as “theft” if you do anything else with the food you’re meant to throw away. Actually vile. So many people could benefit from slightly old but still perfectly edible food.

I hated my previous employer for this. fired previous kitchen manager for giving out the food to homeless people/those in need and have fired people for just eating like a piece of the food.

Had a friend this happened to. He was charged with theft for eating slices of pizza at the end of the night that they were going to throw in the garbage. This was Little Caesar’s way back in 2009.

My mom got fired for the same reason when she worked at the grocery store deli and was banned from the store like old chicken tenders is a gateway to armed robbery.

They NEED to make a law about stores throwing things away because it’s absolutely disgusting how much not just food but stuff like dog beds pillows and toys they’re destroy so you can’t take it

I snuck food i was about to throw out when I was working in the kitchen at a gas station. I didnt get breaks or lunches and would work more than 8 hrs at a time. I didnt care.

It’s so wild to me that corporations will see something as useless and trash it but if anyone uses it or consumes it without paying for it that’s stealing. Even after it’s considered trash. Literally seconds before it hits the trash can someone eats it and now that person is a thief???
