1️⃣ I focused on the wrong person.
Instead of putting my child first, my energy was tied up in my child’s mum where she was, who she was with, what she was doing. None of that was ever going to give my child what he really needed from me. 2️⃣ I thought money was a weapon.
I used it for control, giving and taking when I felt like it. I didn’t realise back then that consistency matters more than control. Stability at home makes life easier for your child. 3️⃣ I hadn’t grown mentally.
At 22, I was still operating with the mindset of a teenager. Accountability and emotional maturity weren’t in my vocabulary. I was a child mentally raising a child physically, and it showed. 4️⃣ I had no men holding me accountable.
No tribe, no brotherhood, no one challenging me to step up. Without accountability, I justified bad behaviour and repeated the same mistakes. 5️⃣ I let my ego take the lead.
I cared more about being “right” than being a good father. I wanted to win arguments instead of creating peace for my child. Takeaway: Coparenting isn’t about ego, control, or focusing on the wrong things it’s about showing up, being present, and giving your child memories filled with love and stability.
