I truly think they just shouldn’t have included Africa in natlans inspo because like 99% of what was actually represented is Aztec and Mayan culture. African culture only really showed up for names. I think the idea was to include indigenous groups from all over the world which in theory isn’t awful but it comes across as bunching them all together. Literally yhey could have just made a nation inspired by Latin America then later make another inspired my Africa.

it completely ruined the game for me. couldn’t look at it the same. they saw all of the dark skinned brown people from all of the references they chose and decided to make their characters pale. it’s so gross.

I completely agree and honestly it’s just sad. Their cultural representation is so tarnished and wrong to the point where they got their OWN cultural region incorrect with certain designs, aka Liyue as China.

It's crazy too because all of the Natlan character designs look better with melanin. But the devs will delete your account if they detect that you changed the skin textures.

I love Genshin, I really do and I wish that Hoyo would actually give more skin tone diversity in the game, though we all know why they won’t. I’m white, though I want to see characters with different skin tones. I don’t want every character to look like me 😭

Never forget that they actively and deliberately fight against color theory to force white skin on characters with color palettes that wash them out. the characters themselves are designed as if darker skin tones were in mind during the creative process but not added. there's a reason you can't see mavuikas nightsoul and why tignari, nefer, and mavuika,looks off. the barest of tans would harmonize with their pallette
