@homewithpeppelah: L’Dor V’Dor means from generation to generation. It is the heartbeat of Judaism. The reminder that our faith, our traditions, our stories are not just ours. They are meant to be carried forward. In our congregation we have something called the Shofar Corral. My dad helped start it, and he was one of the main shofar blowers, leading the blasts that filled the sanctuary on Rosh Hashanah. When he passed away, I stepped into place to keep it going. To keep the sound alive and to keep his memory alive. That is L’Dor V’Dor. Now my sons stand beside me. They have taken up the shofar too, learning the same calls that shaped my childhood. What began with my father now lives in me, and in them. My sister joins us too. This is what it means to pass something on, from generation to generation, from my father to me, and now from me to my sons. The shofar is part of it, but the heart of it is L’Dor V’Dor, the reminder that what is given to us is also ours to carry forward. The month of Elul is the holiest month of the year. We are waking up from a spiritual sleep with the shofar being blown every morning. The reflection is healing because every day we can be a better version of ourselves. The work is never done. This is a reminder to step out of the busy day-to-day and actually sit, reflect, and notice where we may be stuck. #RoshHashanah #shanatova #shofar #roshhashana #elul
