![Every time we stand over a grave, we are reminded of the truth the Prophet ﷺ told us — “The grave is the most horrific sight you could see.” It is not just a hole in the ground, but the beginning of the next stage of existence. Looking down as the deceased is lowered, the heart trembles. That place of silence, darkness, and separation will one day be ours. The grave strips us of all illusions: wealth, power, health, and status mean nothing there. What remains is only our deeds — whether they were sincere or not, whether they were righteous or corrupt. Allah ﷻ reminds us: “Every soul shall taste death. And you will only be given your [full] compensation on the Day of Resurrection. So he who is drawn away from the Fire and admitted to Paradise — he indeed is successful. And what is the life of this world except the enjoyment of delusion.” (Surah Aal-Imran 3:185) The grave is not to terrify us without purpose, but to wake us up. To remind us that the time to prepare is now, before we are the ones lying on our right side facing the Qibla, with no more chances to act. My brother, my sister, take that glance into the grave as a message for yourself: one day others will be lowering you into it.
