Samantha Heller was murdered on December 4, 2012. When she was 15, Samantha met 17-year-old Ben Klinger. She was instantly attracted to him but the relationship quickly turned violent. Samantha began showing up to school with bruises and became unusually withdrawn. Samantha told friends that Klinger made her feel worthless and controlled every aspect of her life. She stated that he isolated her, pushed her down the stairs, sent sexually explicit photos of her to his friends, ran over her foot in a fit of rage, and even threatened to run his car off the road and kill them both. In Klinger’s phone contacts, he referred to Samantha as, “dumb b*tch Heller.” Eventually, Samantha called her aunt, terrified. She said Klinger was driving too fast, something he did often to scare her, and that he was furious. The aunt heard Klinger scream in the background, “If you don’t get off the phone with your f***ing relatives right now, I’m gonna run this car right off the road and then none of them are gonna ever see either one of us again!” Samantha's aunt filed charges against Klinger for sexual exploitation of a minor and assault. With the support of her loved ones, Samantha told Klinger it was over. Weeks passed and things were starting to look up. Now a senior in high school, Samantha was excited to graduate and planned to enroll in veterinary school. Klinger posted bail and harassed Samantha to withdraw the charges. A few days later, she walked into Planned Parenthood believing she was pregnant with his baby. Samantha told Klinger she wouldn’t press charges if he agreed to attend therapy and pay child support. On December 4, 2012, a trucker driving down Route 283 saw a black 1986 Toyota Celica ram into a guardrail. Samantha was partly thrown from the car, with her legs inside and her head face down on the grass. Piercing screams could be heard as Klinger unbuckled his seatbelt, walked around the car, sat on top of Samantha’s head, and smothered her as she screamed, “Get off me!” An investigation concluded that Klinger deliberately drove 114mph into the guardrail. When he noticed Samantha had survived, he strangled her to death. Klinger later told his second (secret) girlfriend, “Now we can be together and she won’t be between us anymore.” An autopsy concluded Samantha was not pregnant. The cause of death was determined to be multiple traumatic injuries and asphyxiation. Her death was ruled a homicide. Klinger pleaded guilty to third-degree murder. The judge handed him a sentence of 28 to 56 years in prison. Klinger later had a change of heart, claiming he didn’t intentionally kill Samantha and was only guilty of driving too fast — not murder. He insisted her claims of domestic violence were simply invented to gain sympathy and attention from others and that photos of the couple proved she wasn’t afraid of him. In 2019, Klinger filed an appeal, which was promptly denied. Samantha was 17 years old. #grave #cemetery #mausoleum #graves #cemeteries
