Not a big deal here. Safety checks happen all the time. It’s only an issue if you don’t have what’s required. If people would just keep their gear maintained this wouldn’t be necessary.

I always laugh at them when they ask for my safety stuff after I'm off the water at the end of the day "Good thing y'all checked to make sure I was safe before I went out on the water" 😂 sometimes they don't appreciate my sarcasm.
