I had Lebanese "friends" back in highschool who 1. didn't wear the hijab 2. had boyfriends 3. would wear makeup and they supported Iran's government... They started bullying me after I said I'm against the regime in Iran. Mind you I was the ONLY Iranian there and unlike the rest of them I was born and raised IN Iran. Meanwhile they couldn't even read the Quran in Arabic bc they didn't speak Arabic. I could tho bc I learned it in school in Iran. They were surprised at how many Surahs I could say recite from memory even tho I'm not Muslim. They thought it was "cute". They didn't know I was forced to memorize them🤷🏻‍♀️

it's always interesting that they use the narrative of "i am struggling to wear it", but can never extend that same grace towards other women, who do wear it who are also "struggling with it". I have had more non-hijabis comment and judge the way i tie the scarf or show parts of my hair, compared to hijabis. and i think it's because they try to make up for the guilt they feel by judging women for wearing it wrong or taking it off.

Also guys you have to remember.. the thing about these type of women is that they revel in ‘immodesty’ they feel beautiful, free, and most themselves in it. They won’t wear the hijab in this lifetime but they also cannot bring themselves to stand in solidarity with the women that were denied this choice because they already feel distant towards their religion. So they make aimless videos defending the hijab that they cannot put on themselves to bury the guilt in a performance.

I agree as a non Hijabi it’s really never been my place to speak on it and the experiences of those who come from families that enforce it. It’s very dismissive and hypocritical to do so if you’ve never been in that position.

this is such an interesting take. My intent is not to invalidate your experience and what you experienced is valid and not okay. And I also want to give another nuance into this discussion. I am a convert, so I am thankful I did not grow up with the pressure. But I feel like my experience is reverded from yours. I grew up indoctrinated that the hijab means oppression and hate, etc. And I live in western Europe, so Islamophobia is all around me and a huge issue. I wanted to wear the hijab because for me it's a symbol of dedication to Allah and a sign outward, that I am a Muslim and if you struggle you can always come to me for help, because it is my duty to help people. I always found it so beautiful. But the hate I got since I started wearing it is immense. Of course there are days where I like it more or less, but I am so happy, that I am able to wear it. Especially in a society where around me is the constant pressure of taking it off. I do not want to say, that these reasons should be reasons for you to wear it at all! I fully understand your decision and want to support you. But while listening I realized that I feel so simulare but on the completely opposite side of the spectrum. Sending you love♥️

In Mormonism we have garments and I only wore them for two years before I couldn’t do it any more. The consequence for us is more social shame and “not honoring god.” I can’t imagine being told that if I didnt wear them that I was vulnerable or deserving of assault or worse. I am so sorry for women who are forced to wear something with such negative connotations.
