I agree. As a working mom, I’ve given up trying to make beautiful bento boxes because kids will eat fries off the car floor 😩 Not to mention they’d bring home the same bento because they are cookies from their friend at school.

that’s why i started to panic thinking about having a child specifically in Japan… besides the lunch boxes, the Japanese mom are expected to sew their children names in everything by hand, is expected to help with every project and even sew bags for school projects, like no one have a job anymore

I do see the oppression, but never considered the nationalism. I'll have to think on that part some more. Appreciate your content. I'm an old hafu who loves Japan but has hated the lack of feminist growth and other issues in the culture. Also, the way Japanese mothers wake up at 4 or 5 am to make these intricate lunchboxes is insane! Really ties in with domestic labor being undervalued, these bentos require a lot of time, skill, and precision.
