Certified Yamaha technician here you can absolutely run it on the hose. Do not exceed 1200 rpm on the hose. But perfectly fine running it on the hose….

certified yamaha tech hear you can do that but if your impeller blows up don't blame me. muffler don't really work on 250 and above well best is a bucket of water that flushes all components. salt will sit in the impeller housing if you only flush the top causing degradation of the housing and the impeller if not flushed out

So how does the thermostat get flushed out? The housing will rot out after a while and in my opinion this is the reason why.

I hook up the hose and use muffs at the same time I run the motor and rinse with salt away

1st if the engine isn't running the thermostat won't open, 2nd my yamaha dealer said if I don't turn the engine on to flush it I'll void the warranty

ear muffs or flush bucket and run the motor. only way to 100% flush the motor.

you should still run the engine while the water's flowing. you won't flush the engine fully without running it.

wrong! hook 2 hoses. one on top port and headphones on bottom while running. never just use top port
