I have been to Switzerland many times. Both 1st and 2nd class are as comfortable. I will buy 2nd class unless the train is crowded .....then I may consider 1st class for a long journey.

With my experience, I would pick 1st class. 2nd class seats are always a mad rush.

We found that 2nd class was often very crowded and difficult to find 2 seats together, especially during the rush hours. Sometimes no seats at all. If you can afford it go first class. 😉

Back in the day the comfort level between 1st and 2nd was big and worth the extra CHF. Now only if it’s something special or there’s no space.

We got first class and it all depends on the day and time of the day, at certain times its overcrowded and you cant get a seat.

I'm fine with 2.class especially if your going with intercity's, their usually pretty comfortable and also imI don't think my halbtax applies to it
