@travisgarlandmusic: my wife has been dancing for ricky martin for 14 years. she’s toured all over the world with him, performing in more sold out *stadiums* and countries than i can even name. from buckingham palace to brazil, austria, australia, argentina and azerbaijan. they’ve done music videos, award shows, tours and more. the love and the history runs deep. so last night seeing him honored with the first ever MTV Latin Icon Award, and getting to see her dance up there beside him was incredibly special for so many reasons. everyone in the crowd sees the performance. they see the costumes. the lights. how much fun everyone is having. how easy the great performers make it look. but most people truly have no idea what it takes to get there. the mountains that have to be moved to make all that happen. physically and mentally and creatively and logistically. they don’t see the aches and pains and bruises. the muscle spasms and many injuries. the trips to the physical therapist and the epsom salt baths and all the nights where they’re physically, mentally, and emotionally depleted after long days of rehearsal. they don’t see the village of creatives, dancers, choreographers, stylists, musicians, engineers, sound techs, etc. that it takes to achieve these brief, but incredible moments. only a handful artists ever reach the heights that ricky has reached. i’m barely scratching the surface here, because it’s hard to describe how much he means to the culture. he walked so that the j. balvin’s, rosalia’s and bad bunny’s of the world could run. it’s rare for an artist to accomplish so much, but it’s even more rare to meet someone at his level of fame, and success (and good looks) that is such a wonderful person. kind, sincere, generous, and loving to everyone he meets. it’s truly inspiring to witness. i haven’t watched an award show in years, but i was tuned in for this one. it was deeply gratifying to see ricky get his flowers on one of the biggest platforms. but even more than that, it was thrilling to see erika shine at what she does best, knowing all the hard work and sacrifice it took to get there. i am more proud of her than i can say. this was a special one. @erikamarosi #VMAs #rickymartin 💃🏻
