i saw another post talking about this adaptation and they said how they basically just 'took a bunch of mainstream actors and songs (based on the trailer song charli xcx) and named it wuthering heights 😭

I’m really concerned why people romanticize a book about so much abuse and violence but dislike the TRAILER which is showing as a romantic movie

i’m pretty sure margot robbie is producing this movie and i have a feeling she only took the role because she wants an oscar. there’s just no way she actually believes she’s right for the role if she’s actually read the book

Completely agree with you! I feel like it definitely should’ve been “inspired by Wuthering Heights” rather than a supposed direct adaptation. This is one of my favorite books & I disagree with the casting & overall erotica theme as well. 🤨

It’s weird to me how fans of the trailer and fans of Emerald Fennell don’t see what is wrong with how sexual the trailer is. a lot of people say the book itself is already erotic, but I don’t think it’s right to call abuse and SA at all but especially involving teenagers to be erotic. And it’s weird how people say they want More evidence that heathcliff is black or Indian, as if he can’t possibly be that dark. The Earnshaws wouldn’t have been that educated, it makes sense they would not know what to make of Heathcliff. When they use words like dark skinned, and asking about Heathcliff’s owner, it’s pretty clear to me that he was considered property, and he was treated as such. I think that is why we have to rely on context clues, so it’s weird to me when people ask for more evidence.

So glad you expanded on this. I was getting crucified in your other comment section 😅but i 100% agree, i feel like they shouldve done something more like Clueless (1995) if they were going to scrap so much of whats in the book. Also i get adaptations are usually (but not limited to) a mix of fidelity and artistic originality but when you're left with almost no remnants of the original work it starts to sound like a retelling

I never read the book, but I do plan to. I saw the original film starring Lawrence Olivier and Merle Oberon. I can see this film based on the trailer as being more erotica as you say, and less likely to follow the True story which I think was demonstrated in the film originally. Sex sells.

Oh, I’m so glad you made a video about this. I’ve been waiting for you to post. Honestly, I’m really disappointed with the casting. When the trailer dropped, I had a complete crash out over it. The way it strays so far from the actual text is so upsetting to me. I know it’s an adaptation, but I just don’t agree with the idea that you can take the entirety of an author’s message, strip it down, and reshape it into something unrecognizable. Wuthering Heights is more than just a story to me. It’s about the rawness of human emotion, obsession, and the destructive power of love. When you water that down or twist it beyond recognition, you’re not just “adapting” it, you’re erasing the very heart of what makes the novel so powerful. Sorry that’s long ik
