Sweet Lucy’s was a staple of my childhood - I remember those Monday night BBQ buffets so fondly. This Philly institution is definitely some of my favorite BBQ outside of the south. Northeast Philly flocks to this spot like a moth to a flame, and for good reason. I started out with a sweet tea, my favorite drink to pair with BBQ, but they also have a full bar for those who love a good beer, cider, or cocktail! I also love that they have an entire two stations dedicated to pickles - a classic BBQ pairing that they let you add as much or as little as you can to your own platters! The Smoked Wings fall right off the bone and are just loaded with flavor. The Pulled Pork is their best seller, and even though it’s not my personal favorite BBQ meat, even I have to admit that Sweet Lucy’s pulled pork is truly special. The Ribs also fall right off the bone and have the most delicious rub on it that I find highly addicting. The Brisket was juicy and so unbelievably tender - I was truly in heaven. The Keilbasa had an amazing snap and a deep flavor that I will absolutely be back for. But the meat that surprised me most was the Turkey. I find it usually too dry, but this one was not, and I didn’t even use BBQ sauce! Of course, like all fantastic BBQ spots, the sides here are incredible. The baked Mac and cheese and the garlic mashed potatoes are top sellers for a reason, BUT don’t sleep on the cole slaw. And the corn bread with the cinnamon honey butter - WOAH.
