@art.chitecture: Sordo Madaleno was selected through an invitation-only competition to design a new wellness clinic and medical hotel in the Mexican Caribbean. Situated across from Isla Mujeres, on a mangrove-framed site in Quintana Roo, the project draws inspiration from the human genome, with the DNA’s spiral strands shaping the overall spatial sequence. The program organizes residences, spa, and hotel in a linear scheme, ensuring that every room enjoys direct views of the Caribbean Sea. The 10-story structure is divided into north, central, and south volumes. The central block houses the spa, combining fitness, beauty, treatments, clinic, and water circuit within the first six floors overlooking the mangroves, while also acting as a link between the residences and the medical hotel. SHA Mexico also emphasizes gastronomy, with the “SHAMADI” therapeutic restaurant located in the central volume and an additional dining space positioned in a northern satellite structure. Grounded in principles of geosensitivity and biophilia, the design integrates endemic vegetation, sensory landscapes, and food-producing gardens, reinforcing the concept of therapeutic cuisine.
