Personally, I don't think that they've ruined it with the changes (Rhaenicent especially), but I do think that they have emphasized that relationship to the detriment of others (Ex: Alysanne and Sabitha, Jeyne and Jessamyn), and to the detriment of other characters (Jace and Nettles in particular). This is less the fault of the writing, and more HBOs fault honestly - more episodes are needed per season to explore the full thematic and narrative depth of the story, and the breadth of the cast. Rhaenicent is not the problem per se, it's just that it takes up a lot of space in a story that is about a lot of other things and characters

This will probably be the lamest take, but a very large part of the fandom acts like the show is being run under like three people and THEN it's the actors. For all WE know, there are some GREAT ideas being thrown out there, only for higher ups to come back like "Love this idea, we simply can't DO it" and so they either have to adapt it another way OR leave it out entirely. We don't KNOW that.

The show is so different from the book that the actors themselves don’t even use the book as material to help build their characters. From the very first episode the show was more of a fanfiction au and I don’t mean this as a derogatory comment at all. It’s an au where Alicent and Rhaenyra were best friends and Rhaenyra is tomboyish and Heleana is a dreamer etc. That’s all fine and very enjoyable, season 1 was amazing for the most part. Season 2 had good moments but overall wasn’t that good. Even Grrm weighted in publicly and he rarely does that now. All that said, people need to calm the fuck down. It’s a show. The characters are fictional but the actors are real people. The things I’ve seen said about Matt and Emma on various social media platforms is absolutely insane and so cruel. They need to chill

We are going to a season 3 of a show that starred in 2022 with major changes from canon at this point it should be excepted, if theres no chance of you enjoying it with changes you must leave it! Season 3 it’s coming and still the same discourse

I’ve always felt like 1:1 adaptations were less fun. Sometimes I don’t like the changes, but I’ll always have the source material … or I can stop watching at any time !

💯 yup! I think in the hotd fandom especially there’s an attitude of “well I want it this way and anything else isn’t valid!” Fans complain the show isn’t like the book just as much as they complain the show doesn’t fit a headcanon they made up. And there’s a point where it’s not critique anymore, it’s just dissatisfaction projected onto anyone involved in the show.

Yes, please do talk about how people took issue with HOTD because Matt couldn't attend the CS London premier, but they didn't criticize CS for not working around Matt's existing filming schedule. Let's not even talk about how CS sidelined all their supporting cast, except one, in promoting the movie up until the last few days. No issues there. And the "free an actor from HOTD" crowd, like how can you genuinely think it's not helping their careers. Just this week, two HOTD actors have new shows.

You’re not wrong but I do think it’s just that things that get really big get entitled fans, and those fans feel they own this (doctor who for example) and if it doesn’t match their thing, it’s not right. But it didn’t used to be this way at all. I miss fandom underground

There’s just so many people that can’t seem to comprehend that TV/Movie should be seen as a separate entity to the source material. Adaptations will always be their own thing and that’s kind of what I love about them, and I will never understand hating any actor attached to these shows, they’re human beings just doing their amazing job. Like any time Emma is on screen I’m so happy 😅

I have fun watching the show, the acting it top-notch. However, I lost all respect for the showrunners in the Daemon x Alyssa scene because absolutely no one asked to be that traumatized.

Yeah I mean, I heard they changed Alicent, I said "Yeah fuck that show then", and I haven't watched it. And I won't. Each billionth change they mane just makes me more and more solid in my choice. Sucks however that I now get people telling me how I am wrong about Dance of Dragons lore when I base the things I say solidly on the books.

I agree that we can't know what the actors think about the series but still in the mood we see the difference between the promotion of season A and the promotion of season 2, the way they talk about it when we ask them the question, the way a smile that was on the face falls and disappears when a question arrives on hotd, their reaction to change 2022 to 2025. Also yes the series and the book are two different entities we note that but even with that when we just look at the series it is not logical by itself from season 1 to season 2 and it is poorly written when we look at it objectively it is not well written.And that's why today I'm thinking about whether I'm going to watch season 3 and for the moment it's a no for me. But only st*pid people don't change their minds. So we'll see from now until then.
