@thechrishinton: A lot of parents ask me why their adult kids have gone silent. Today, it’s not about blame—it’s about truth, wake-up calls, and how relationships actually work. We’re talking about covert contracts, conditional connection (not love), childhood pain, and what shadows keep us from seeing ourselves and our kids clearly. I get that it’s heavy. I get that it might feel accusatory. That’s not what this is. This is a chance for humility, accountability, and—to maybe, just maybe—reconnection. There isn’t a child in the world that would choose to go no contact with a loving, supportive, and kind parent!!

As a parent it is YOUR Responsibility to facilitate a relationship with your child. Your child doesn’t owe you for anything.

A lot of bad bad bad parents in these comments. Soo much pride and inability to see past their own faults. Poor kids.

I came to a revelation one day when as an adult I asked myself, if I just met my parents and they were the same age as me, would I want to be friends with them or spend time around them, and the answer for me was a resounding no.

Only toxic parents have kids that choose no contact with them. But toxic parents never self reflect and accept accountability. That’s how they become so toxic

Every time someone complains about a family member going no contact with them, it only takes about 5 seconds of listening to get why.

I think some parents think of their children as children even when they become adult adults. They don’t realize that the relation has metamorphosis. And it’s horribly harmful to the adult children.

If what my parents gave me was the "best they could", that sets a REALLY low bar for their capabilities.

Reading the comments, I can see that many parents will never let go of control and ego to ever understand the concepts you’re talking about. Sad really, but it’s a conscious choice they are making.

There’s a lot of “we did the best we could” and “they should be grateful” in these comments. But what makes you think your adult kids don’t already know you tried your best or that they aren’t grateful?
Relationships only work when both sides grow. If your child has pulled away, it’s because their growth has moved past something you refuse to let go of. To them, that thing feels like an anchor.
If you want to be part of their life, then stop blaming them and find growth within yourself.

It is your responsibility if your children cut off contact. People who grew up in a good home don't cut off relationships with their parents.

They know exactly why, their kids have told them, they refuse to accept responsibility.
