@angel_antonio_tattoos: Using tattoo numbing cream is a gamble Did this tattoo underestimated the time and underestimated how painful it would be Used a variety of different numbing creams highest at 7 percent lidocaine. Didn't heal well. Fallout and saturation issues as you can still see the contrast from the bottom Reworked everything and didn't use anything this time made him thug it out and think I saved it. Let me know if you guys have similar horror stories or if any creams actually worked for you? #numbingcream #chicagotattoo #chicagotattooartist #tattoostory #tattootips
I’ve started using numbing cream for my last few since I just can’t handle the pain like I used to, maybe getting older and my skin getting thinner? Perimenopause getting to me? I don’t know, but I donated a kidney, so I’m not taking any shit from anyone saying I’m pussing out. Either way, I haven’t noticed any issues or difference in healing between ones I have or haven’t used it.

If you use derm, don’t cover the tattoo with derm if you use numbing cream. The residual lidocaine can get trapped under the derm and cause a reaction, or “chemical burn” for the lack of a better word. I have them go home let it seep, wash it, and apply the derm before bed.

Wonder if you are using cream after skin is broken? Supposed to be use as a prenumb and liquids or gels only after skin is broken.

I used it on a few of mine tattoos, applied two hours before and lasted around 3,5h. Its not safe to reapply during the tattoo. For me it worked pretty great!

Keep a brand you like on hand. It’s simple

I’ve used 2 brands, and both have not caused any issues with the healing on me compared to my other tattoos

so yes. I used numbing cream. this was my very first tattoo. my best friend and I got them together..hers looks fine (she used numbing cream as well) mine is a disaster. I also missed the "thin layer of skin protectant" memo and was caking it on. pretty sure it got infected in the healing journey. this is it now...

used it on 5 of my large pieces and have had no issues whatsoever with healing. no need for touch ups and no ink falling out. either a user error or the brand used.

I have tattoos from the late 90’s and early 00’s. My Hubby was also in the industry so we knew a lot of artists. Numbing cream was just becoming a thing but a lot of artist refused to use it because they swore the tattoo did not turn out like it should.

I used numbing cream for my leg but only at the start. My artist got the cream for a nurse so it was medical numbing cream. Idk what brand or cream it was. I got this over 5 years ago.

I have low pain tolerance but I sit through it. Last thing I want is to have to go over spots my artist already did. & I try to sit through as much of it as possible cause if I take a break & get back to it, it feels worse than just going non stop. 😅 I only take breaks when asked or if the pain is really bad.

If you can’t sit through the pain you didn’t earn it. Save the cream for the girls

yeah, its not the numbing cream at all... or the gel... its huge pieces done in one sitting that bear the issue. 15 years, never a folly in lidocane. unless you wrap up the tattoo with it on.
