It’s a kata nama am, a place. Pronounce it as it is. After all Singapore punya bahasa kebangsaan kan Bahasa Melayu, bukan bahasa British. 😂

Thanks for sharing! As a Singaporean Malay, I've always noticed how weird it is when my Chinese Singaporean friends pronounce 'jenting'. 🤭 Fun fact: 'Genting' in Malay means a 'small and narrow (middle)' of smth e.g. roads — which explains the small/narrow roads that lead to the highlands.
