Every story starts somewhere, and ours started beautifully. He was excited to be a dad, and in the beginning, he was loving and present. I truly believed we were building a strong foundation.
Things changed after his parents visited. New perspectives came in, and slowly, his attitude shifted. He’ll say he left because of his student visa that was to expire a few days after he decided to leave, but leaving without arranging care for our son was still his choice.
I’m not proud of how I found out his dad had been disrespectful, but it confirmed what I was feeling and let me to confront him, things were falling apart after that. After his parents left, he told me I was asking too much as a father, his parents cut him off financially, which added pressure. He became distant and overwhelmed. In the video, he looks hurt and he was.
Even after he left, communication was minimal. He doesn’t support us financially, and most help initially came from his parents, which I eventually had to stop accepting. I mention this not to blame anyone, but to show context.
I’ve thought about filing for custody I’ve held back because of fear and overthinking, but I know I need to take that step for my son. At the end of the day, he’ll decide what kind of father his dad is. My job is to raise him with love, stability, and truth.
From this moment forward, it’s about healing and moving forward.
