poor baby doesn't even know why she was in trouble if it wasn't explained to her. She had to have been scared. I think at her age she should have been told that we can't play guns at school it's against the rules and if she does it again she will be in trouble I feel a warning and possibly a note home to parents to talk to their kids about the rule would be more appropriate for her age.

That feels like an extreme reaction. I understand the concern since people can be unpredictable... but this could have been a lesson or lecture instead of a punishment. If it were my kid, I’d move schools or even switch to homeschooling. Obviously, that school doesn’t have a healthy way of handling normal child behavior.

This is an unfortunate example of the world we live in. I don't think she should have been suspended for this. She's just trying to be a kid. When my boys were little (at home of course) they would play woth nerf guns shooting eachother woth foam bullets. That didnt mean they wanted to hurt eachother. My point is that it is very sad kids cannot even be kids anymore.

they could have idk EDUCATED HER. thats their whole job. but nah kick her out of school for a few days, thats what will TEACH HER. Dumbass school doing the opposite of thei job. didnt explain shit and then kick her out instead of using those degrees they always go on and on about to teach her which is actually their job.

I miss the days when we used to play with little toy silver guns with little exploding caps in them, that smelled funny when you shot them. (not in school of course) All the shootings wasn't a problem then. So it's obviously a people problem. I've tried to think back to anything that's changed and the only thing I can think of is that when I was a kid, most kids had a mom at home. not all, but most homes were two parent. And there's social media. There's probably a bunch else that's changed but that's all I can come up with. So I still don't know what's changed to make it so bad that we can't let a 5-year-old play with a stick anymore. Guess we'll never fix it if we don't know what changed.

When I was 5 years old I picked up the stick and used it as a toy gun they are just kids.... if this ever happened to my son I'll be taking him out of school and I'll be home schooling him myself fuck the school district

Parents freak out that schools dont do anything to prevent these things.. and then schools make consequences for these serious “jokes” and parents freak out. No a 5 year old shouldnt be suspended and have that visible on their school record. But thats the perfect situation they need to educate the students. Im glad the school stepped in, but i wish they handled it better.

My 5 year old used to make guns with his mega blocks when he was 3ish and I had to make him stop so he wouldn’t do it at preschool.. it’s a cruel world we live in that kids can’t play pretend or wear light up shoes to school because of nutcases doing the unthinkable…

my 6yr old autistic 1st grader was suspended for 1 day for making finger gun at his teacher. I didnt say a thing to him because he would realize all he has to do to go home is make finger guns. he never did it again.

1. “Policy” means it’s written out in the student handbook, so the consequences are not a surprise. 2. Now you have to tell your kid “people do bad things.” She’ll know soon enough because lockdown drills will be a thing for the rest of her school career. 3. Not a single teacher or administrator told her why she was in trouble? I doubt that. 4. Maybe if we quit electing officials that vote down gun laws & mental health services we wouldn’t have to punish a 5 year old for playing.

We do not even pretend play with guns in school. Did it warrant a suspension at 5? No, probably not. However, if it were a repeated issue, it would warrant the suspension.

My nephew kept pretending to shoot classmates and got detention. He was warned next is suspension. Parents need to actually take accountability and educate their children. Instead of letting them pretend guns are toys. 🙄 it’s one day, she’ll survive

They should have sat her down and explained to her. I hate situations like this because I remember being a kid and not understand why some of the things I did was so bad, but now being an adult, I also see the importance of teaching her appropriate gun safety- even if that gun is imaginary.

A one day suspension isn’t complaint worthy. There’s a zero tolerance policy for gun play. Unfortunately they learn about gns pretty early. I have a two yr old class that constantly plays like this. I am constantly redirecting. At 5 (yes I’ve taught 4 and 5s as well) she should know no weapons.

There is more to this story. I’m guessing her teacher has probably spoken to her many times about this type of play. Also the way mom is making this elaborate story about the Royal Guard leads me to believe there is more to this story and this girl isn’t as innocent as she seems.
